Install the timer as an app

My Deep Work runs in any browser, but it is nicer in its own window: one click from your Dock, taskbar or home screen, away from the tab that is one click from everything else. No app store, no download, free.

It is a web app, so installing takes a few seconds and updates happen on their own. Your sessions and statistics are the same everywhere you sign in.

Mac — Safari

  1. 1 Open my-deepwork.com in Safari.
  2. 2 Choose File → Add to Dock.
  3. 3 Click Add. The timer now opens from the Dock in its own window.

Mac or Windows — Chrome, Edge, Brave

  1. 1 Open my-deepwork.com.
  2. 2 Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or find "Install" in the browser menu.
  3. 3 Confirm. It opens in its own window and appears with your other apps.

iPhone and iPad — Safari

  1. 1 Open my-deepwork.com in Safari.
  2. 2 Tap the Share button.
  3. 3 Tap "Add to Home Screen", then Add.

Android — Chrome

  1. 1 Open my-deepwork.com in Chrome.
  2. 2 Tap the ⋮ menu.
  3. 3 Tap "Install app" or "Add to Home screen", then confirm.

Why bother installing it?

A browser tab sits next to email, news and everything else that wants your attention. An app window does not. Opening the timer from the Dock or home screen skips the moment where you meant to start a session and ended up somewhere else.

The installed app behaves exactly like the website: the same timer, the same soft chime at the end of a session, the same statistics. Allow notifications when asked if you want a nudge when a block ends while the window is in the background.
