The Flowtime Technique is a flexible alternative to the Pomodoro Technique. Instead of a fixed 25-minute timer, you note when you start a task, work until your concentration genuinely drops, note the stop time, and rest for a period that scales with how long you worked — often around a fifth of it.
Why it matters
It never interrupts real flow with a ringing timer, and the time log shows how long you can actually focus. The trade-off is less external structure, which makes starting and remembering breaks harder for some people.
How to apply it
- Write down the task and the start time, then begin.
- Stop when you notice your focus slipping, not when a timer rings.
- Log the stop time and take a break of roughly a fifth of the session.
- Review the log weekly to see your natural focus span.
