Flow is the mental state where you are so fully immersed in what you are doing that self-consciousness fades and time distorts. Effort still happens, but it stops feeling like effort. It tends to appear when a task is hard enough to be interesting but not so hard that it triggers anxiety.
Why it matters
Flow is where your best and fastest work usually happens. Getting into it reliably is less about willpower and more about removing friction: a clear goal, no interruptions, and a task pitched at the right level of challenge.
How to apply it
- Pick one concrete task with an unambiguous "done" before you start.
- Protect a block of at least 30–60 uninterrupted minutes.
- Match difficulty to skill — stretch slightly beyond comfortable.
- Remove the obvious interrupters: phone away, notifications off, tabs closed.
