Deep work is focused, undistracted effort on a cognitively demanding task — the kind of work that creates real value and is hard to replicate. It sits in contrast to shallow work: logistical, low-concentration tasks that keep you busy without moving the needle.

Why it matters

The ability to concentrate deeply is becoming both rarer and more valuable. Most meaningful output — writing, coding, designing, learning something hard — depends on stretches of uninterrupted attention that shallow, reactive work never allows.

How to apply it

  • Schedule deep work in advance rather than hoping to "find time".
  • Start with 30–60 minute blocks and extend as your focus stamina grows.
  • Give each block a single, specific objective.
  • Track your sessions so you can see the hours accumulate.
